IFP Center for Media Arts presents

Monica Haller  |  Philip Studer  |  Teri Fullerton

In 2002 war photographer and scholar Simon Norfolk said that we are entering a period of constant, low intensity war made possible by the fact that the vast majority are not asked to sacrifice. Coinciding with the beginning of 10 years of war in Afghanistan, Unshared Sacrifice presents the stories of those few who must conduct the business of war.

Author/designer Philip Studer has created an installation derived from THE VETERANS BOOK PROJECT, a growing library of books authored collaboratively by Monica Haller and veterans, family members, Iraqis, journalists and others with intimate experience of the current American wars. All 27 of the books will be in the reading room.

In Her series FALLING IN LOVE AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE, photographer Teri Fullerton tells the stories of families who have a member deployed. They stand in as witnesses for the traces, the dust, the ash, the scent of what’s been lost and what’s been endured and what is still happening.
